Why Hazel Gap Barn is Exceptional for Wedding Videography

I've had the pleasure of filming at Hazel Gap Barn several times over the years, and I've even shot photography here back in the day. This stunning red-brick barn on the historic Welbeck Estate in Nottinghamshire is part of the Cripps & Co family of venues, and that means you're getting exceptional quality, incredible staff, and a venue that's been designed with celebrations in mind.

Part of the Cripps & Co Family

Being part of Cripps & Co makes a real difference. This group operates some of the most beautiful barn venues across the country, and they've perfected the art of creating spaces that work brilliantly for both couples and suppliers. The staff at Hazel Gap are genuinely fantastic, professional, supportive, and always going the extra mile to make sure your day runs smoothly. As a videographer, working with a team this experienced makes my job easier and your wedding film better.

A Dramatic Red-Brick Barn on the Welbeck Estate

Hazel Gap is striking from the moment you arrive. The dramatic red-brick barn features a crenellated entrance and a pair of watchtowers that curve around a picturesque courtyard. For wedding videography, this architectural character provides incredible establishing shots and a unique visual identity that sets your film apart.

Located on the historic Welbeck Estate near Edwinstowe, the venue combines heritage with modern luxury, exactly what you want for a cinematic wedding film.

The Light-Filled Oak Room

Inside, the Oak Room is absolutely beautiful for wedding videography. The light-filled space has stunning views over the gardens and woodland, and the natural light here is exceptional. The room flows seamlessly into the bar and courtyard, creating a connected indoor-outdoor feel that translates wonderfully on film.

With capacity for 150 guests for ceremonies and dining (250 including evening guests), it's the perfect size for comprehensive coverage without feeling overwhelming.

The Magical Courtyard

The courtyard at Hazel Gap is one of my favourite filming locations. Surrounded by barn buildings and featuring a fountain, mulberry trees, seating, and planters, it's sheltered and peaceful during the day. But at night? It transforms into something truly magical with fairy lights, fire pits, and lanterns creating an atmospheric backdrop that looks stunning on film.

This space is perfect for:

  • Drinks receptions with natural mingling shots
  • Romantic couple portraits at golden hour
  • Evening celebrations with atmospheric lighting
  • Candid guest moments throughout the day

Beautiful Gardens and Woodland

The views over the gardens and woodland provide gorgeous natural backdrops for wedding videography. Whether it's couple portraits in the grounds, ceremony shots with woodland views, or drone footage showcasing the Welbeck Estate setting, the outdoor spaces here offer incredible variety.

The Nottinghamshire countryside location means you get that quintessential English wedding aesthetic that looks timeless on film.

Late License Until 1am

With a late license until 1am, Hazel Gap allows for extended celebrations, and extended filming opportunities. Those late-night dancing shots, sparkler exits, and final moments of your wedding day are all captured beautifully, giving your wedding film a complete narrative from start to finish. You can book me for extended hours if you would like the party to be filmed late into the night.

Underfloor Heating and Fire Pits

The barn has advanced underfloor heating, roaring fires, and outdoor fire pits, which means Hazel Gap works beautifully year-round. For wedding videography, this is important because it means:

  • Guests are comfortable and relaxed (better candid footage)
  • Winter weddings have cosy, atmospheric lighting from fires
  • You can use outdoor spaces even in cooler months
  • Fire pits create stunning visual elements for evening shots

Exceptional Food and Drink

Cripps & Co is renowned for their food, cooked over open flames on signature BBQs and French rotisseries. The feast-style dining creates natural, joyful moments that are perfect for wedding films, guests enjoying incredible food, sharing tables, and celebrating together. Their curated wine list and award-winning Cripps Drinks range also mean your reception will have that premium feel that translates on film.

Civil Ceremonies and Church Options

Hazel Gap is licensed for civil ceremonies with space for up to 150 seated guests. Alternatively, the barn can host celebrations following a ceremony at one of the local churches. Either way, the venue works seamlessly for comprehensive wedding videography coverage.

Why I Love Filming at Hazel Gap

Having shot both video and photography here over the years, I know this venue inside and out. The combination of:

  • Dramatic red-brick architecture with character
  • Light-filled Oak Room with woodland views
  • Magical courtyard that transforms at night
  • Professional Cripps & Co team who support suppliers
  • State-of-the-art sound and lighting systems
  • Beautiful Welbeck Estate setting

…makes Hazel Gap one of the best venues in Nottinghamshire for creating cinematic wedding films.

Ideal for Nottinghamshire & East Midlands Couples

Located in Edwinstowe, Nottinghamshire, Hazel Gap is perfectly positioned for couples across Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, and the wider East Midlands. The Welbeck Estate location provides heritage and prestige while being easily accessible for guests.
